Meet our founder

Tobias Lindbergh
Founder and CEO
“I have always focused on training new team members, but at Moody’s it really became a passion project. There is nothing better than to empower others to excel.”
I’m glad you’ve made it this far! I hope you’ve found our free content helpful, and that the resources linked here will provide you with valuable insights to deepen your knowledge of Sustainable Finance.
When I began my career in Sustainable Finance, the market was still in its infancy. Only a handful of issuers were active — all within the SSA/Agency space. This was before the Green Bond Principles had been introduced and long before regulatory frameworks shaped the conversation.
With a background in economics and finance and experience across various investment banking desks, including Debt Capital Markets (DCM), my introduction to thematic debt came while leading a DCM debt advisory unit. A colleague from the bond syndicate team reached out for guidance — and that conversation led to my involvement in what turned out to be the thirteenth green bond ever issued. I was immediately fascinated by the structure, and from that moment, I knew this was the path I wanted to follow.
In those early days, resources were limited — there were no formal training programs, no established thematic principles, and little academic research to guide the way. Even my university studies had barely touched on ESG or sustainability. Fortunately, my personal interest in climate change, biodiversity, and animal welfare, combined with my experience in project finance and debt advisory, helped me connect the dots. These insights proved invaluable when navigating concepts like Green Bond ‘Use of Proceeds’ structures.
But my greatest teachers weren’t textbooks or training manuals — they were the hundreds of issuers and borrowers I had the privilege of working with over the years as Head of Sustainable Finance. Learning from their insights, challenges, and innovative approaches helped me develop a deeper understanding of the market. As Sustainable Finance evolved — expanding from green to social, to sustainable, and eventually to sustainability-linked instruments — I was fortunate to grow alongside it, helping to develop thematic loan offerings alongside sustainable bond advisory services.
After leaving investment banking, I joined Moody’s Ratings as Head of Second Party Opinions for APAC and EMEA. Moody’s had recently acquired VigeoEiris and was scaling up its presence in the thematic debt space. I joined during an exciting growth phase, working with my team of 30 talented analysts across six hubs in my two regions. When I arrived, Moody’s ranked sixth globally in the SPO market; two and a half years later, we had become the second-largest SPO provider in the world.
While I’ve always valued training, it became a true passion project at Moody’s. Empowering others to succeed was incredibly rewarding, and with such a large and capable team, we had the resources to develop comprehensive internal training programs that supported our analysts and strengthened the services we provided.
When it was time to return to my hometown of Stockholm, I knew exactly what I wanted to do next — and so the Sustainable Finance Academy (SFA) was born.
Today’s Sustainable Finance market is far more structured than it once was — which makes learning easier in some ways, but also far more complex. The pace of change has accelerated, and while the opportunity to grow alongside the market remains, catching up can be a challenge. That’s why my goal with SFA is to provide clear, practical, and insightful content to help you navigate this evolving landscape with confidence.
I wish you every success in your Sustainable Finance journey, and I truly hope that our paths cross someday.
And finally — since you’ve made it all the way here — thank you for taking the time to read my story!
